Boboli Gardens Florence

A splendid landscaped garden which was to inspire the designs of many a Palace Garden

It was ''Niccolò Pericoli, also known as 2Tribolo", the man responsible for the design of Palazzo Pitti's Boboli Gardens. The work, commissioned by the Medici family, was carried out between 1550 and 1558: eight long years which resulted in a veritable masterpiece of landscape design, made all the more stunning by the addition of fountains and statues realised by artists such as Tacca, Ammannati and Giambogna'''.

Giulio and Alfonso Parigi created the splendid amphitheatre, stage for numerous theatrical performances. Other places of note within the gardens are the Coffee House, the Lawn of Columns, the avenue of cypress trees known as the "Viottolone" and the small artificial lake or "Isolotto".
